Henry Sparks is a singer-songwriter living in Canterbury, England. Informed by chequered careers as a farm hand, carpenter, architect and university lecturer – and others too dubious to mention – Henry’s music draws its vitality from piercing social observation and English and American folk music canons as its texts. Alongside the struggle for the ‘legal tender’ Henry has written and played continuously during his life. He was a founding member of DIY punk innovators Longport Buzz and Sheffield roots pioneers Bootfare (appearing at Glastonbury and Kerrville Festivals). His 2012 solo CD ‘Seven Songs’ and 2016 EP ‘Latest Waxing’ received favourable international reviews. He is at present working on a solo album. Recently he wrote soundtrack (Wind and Fire and Ashes) for the film ‘Impermanence’ which won a prize at the 2024 Folkestone Documentary Festival. He currently plays with The Country Counts and out locally with Henry Sparks and the Circuitbreakers.
